People Watchers ***************** the last two days have been wonderful warm breezy and lush- good living everywhere the lilacs are just coming in the rain washes everything clean and Jinky ran away to enjoy this phenomina somewhere else I don't worry about him anymore something always brings him home This morning at dawn ! phone rings a ladys cheery voice tells me a happy little red cat is hanging around her porch friendliest cat in the world her two cats love him but won't allow him inside the house blah blah assorted kitty gossip I go over to fetch him lts a few blocks way in the retirement part of town an older man and woman are sitting on their porch stirring their coffee with the same shared spoon Jinky is at complete ease perched on the ladys lap smelling the morning air they offer me coffee but i decline they tell me Jinky wrestles with their younger cat as their older cat looks on the two of them are very athletic tumbling and scrapping in good nature thumping on the wood bumping up against the potted plants its the most excitement their old cat has had since the young cat moved in a year ago and the best excercise action the young cat has ever had in his life he's a little older than Jinky but about the same phase of development and that is... ......................the BITE and FIGHTphase their young cat was neutered very early in the game Jinky is still bejewelled its not about love all the time' sometimes its about wrestling today its about wrestling their old cat, I learned generally ignores the new cat they get along but they are not close the young cat is way too rambunctious for the old cats liking but old cat seemed glad to act as on porch wrestling referee a good job for a slow old housecat and the three of them have been going at it all day for two days but the two cats won;t let Jinky inside the house where the food is so he hasn;t eaten in two days he only got as far as the doormatt before the yowling and hissing started as we were talking a landscaper truck and trailor pulled up across the street ready to start a big lawn job and four men got out and started unloading metal wheelbarrows and banging shovels and rakes as the radio played some faceless rock balad this greatly excited Jinky who dived off the ladys lap and ran right up to the men making the noise this was a signal for the other wrestling cat to approach behind Jinky and enjoy the wonders of chaos up close the two young cats tails waving in excitement hiding amongst the iris beds watching the landscapers unload their stuff cat friends on a wonderful adventure excitement enough for all I know people watch whales be whales and people watch birds be birds here are cats... watching people be people Jinky the pioneer and his new wrestling friend they are people watchers maybe this new thing will spread across the animal world and people will start behaving better knowing that cats are watching them I said goodbye and thank you grabbed Jinky and biked him home he smelled like the spray chemical that fussy people put on carpets where cats have peed I guess thats the doormat he slept on for the last two nights I am glad he has found a place for himself in the general cat communitry as a porch wrestler - the Scarlet Avenger- available to sign autographs after his nap in the box of towels
