As The August Crickets Tune Up

we fear love
even though
love is natural and necessary
because attraction
to someone good hearted
signals we will have to be
somewhat more honest
than we usually are
and possibly live inside
a clearer daily truth than
we usually bother with
we want change
but on our own terms
but that isn't change
thats redecorating
inside a submarine
when a heart opens
after it has been exposed
to someone elses good heart
it stays open
like a morning glory
or it snaps shut
like venus fly trap
thus can be either
liberating or frightening
it's up to the individual heart
this is true freedom of choice
that no body else
can or will interfere with
love is always our own fault
because love is always
of our own making
like heaven or hell
only more immediate
