The Two Friends

Captain Beefheart
dedicated his music to
children and animals
then he died.
Frank Zappa considered tobacco
to be his favourite vegetable
then he died
both men had been friends
since thy were kids in California
explored the big deal of life
worked on art together
played music together
they made very different art
from each other
they were not interested in hits
but very interested in making something interesting
Captain Beefheart when asked,
"what is the most important thing
in the world to you?
he answered immediately " my wife "
Same question to Frank Zappa
he answered "his family"
cool interviewer
wondered why
these talented men
didn't answer
the most important thing
was their music
Mr Zappa added that music is fun,
and it is often very interesting
but it isn't the most
important thing
in the world'
Mr Zappa had four children
who still lived at home-
even when they became adults
had plenty of money
and successful careers
in show bizz
for them
their family home
was the most fun
and interesting place
in the world.
The Zappas
had built their own
private planet
with a recording studio
in the basement
Captain Beefheart
moved into the desert
so that he and his wife
could do art & have fun
without interruption
