Cat Fight for Suntan Access

Huge fight in the yard today
I could hear it from inside
two cats fighting to the death
and one hysterical voice sounded
like it belonged to taser
so I investigated
Yup... he was one of the combatants
thrashing it out
whirling around in that fur flying
hissing cartoon dust cloud
of wrestling limbs in chaotic rotation
I knew immediately why
war broke out in my backyard today
That heat zone in the backyard
where the sun warms with some advantage
through a notch in the house shadow
that little spot that heats up first and is the warmest square metre in the neibourhood
and the cats were fighting ti the death
to determine, for today at least
who gets to nap in the sweet spot
and who must sleep in a lesser sweet spot
Apparently Taser gave this serious global conflict
his best shot because the other cat ran away So he was able to make a little nest and pass out, but he dod not gain him any peace of mind
every small sound woke him up i
in a kung fu frame of mind,
ready to battle again
for the right to be unconscious
in a special warm area the size of a bath matt
The birds watched this Titanic struggle
from overhead trees
and the squirrels up the cherry tree
snapped their tails in excitement,
hoping beyond hope
that both cats would kill each other
There is no private life in nature
not when the stakes are so high
So this is how the world carries on:
and so this is how
victory or defeat is decided
and policy adjusted
whole armies engage
to fight for the right
to access some special opportunity-
some small sun warmed spot
in the backyard of their minds
It need not be significant
it just has to be won..
Will Taser ever figure out
that there is more than
one comfy warm sunny spot
to nap on in this world?
- Not if he keeps winning these fights
