Nov 11- Day of the Dead *************************** Millions gave up their lives- millions more gave up their youth millions more lost limbs, eyes, minds. futures.. Nobody liked serving under arms for a government they were for the large part indifferent to.. Their Fathers who had served in the Great War a generation before instructed them in the intimacy of childhood of the horrors and indignities of war. Death from terrible weapons, disease from terrible living conditions, hearts & souls poisoned with fear & doubt every moment without respite, year after tear with no end in sight. Knowing this full well, when the call for help arrived teenagers. husbands , fathers, brothers, sons, neighbors took up arms , submitted to hasty training in the arts of war and then entered the final struggle in many parts of the world simultaneously , Their foe was the militant collective of ruthless & ambitious nations who openly declared their goal was control of the whole world, and domination over the affairs of the planet forever. The foe were cleverly organized, well equipped determined aggressors ready willing & able to destroy all opposition to their wicked ambitions. In the end, the good guys prevailed over the bad guys but at a terrible cost - one that civilians will never ever fully appreciate The after effects of a world at war with itself has still not been fully resolved, generations later. Had the Allies not prevailed, how different the world would be today.. The blessings of freedom and opportunity to live as we choose that we take for granted like the air we breathe is ours to live because of the sacrifices of others before us. They lived, loved fought and died so that God's will and not man's will would shape the destiny of the world for ever and ever, amen. if we can't remember the people who shaped the world we love, we can appreciate that many lives were spent back then so that our lives could live free in a future which is now The men who fell fighting yo ensure the bright future we live in now loved their lives as much as you love yours. The iron faith war veterans show in honouring the memory of their dead brothers many decades before gives you some idea of the generosity of spirit their generation mustered up when it was called for. Could you, wouid you do the same oh men and women of today ?
