Remember the I Forget

Its is not casual
what people perceive
to be heritage--
Heritage is history
waiting in the wings
Old people will shoot you
if you don-t see things
exactly as they do
and obey accordingly.
They will often confuse
obedience with respect
as it suits them
If you think kids
live in a fantasy world
that we cannot enter into=
old people are even worse
but insist you believe it too
and not give them
your version of events
or any of that guff
TV and the Internet
has rendered every
one of us new generation souls
invalid-
never have been
and never will be
of any value whatsoever
They were " there "
but maybe not paying attention...
and we were't there
and paying attention now
after the fact
doesn't count
That rusty fence yonder
is sacred to them..
as it once defined
the boundaries of something
that ain't there no more.
Some sweet reality from their
fictionalized youth
If that fence disappears
the ideas the old people
cling to might disappear
and thus the old people themselves might disappear-
therefore they will
shoot at you
so that YOU disappear
there is not enough room
in this world for
more than one version
of the truth
