very early Monday
the NASA Curious George Mars Rover
will have either
made it to the surface of Mars safely
or been smashed to bits trying.
Its exciting either way
We will know by about 2 am EST
if it worked out or not.
Even if it fails
and ends in a fireball
a million miles away
NASA will try again

that is if the science cart survives

I have a haircut waiting
as a long standing bet
with Alfred the Great
when and if they find
irrefutable signs of life-
actual wet and walking or
clearly showing in the fossil record, at any point in any mission.
Thats buzz down to zero,

Hooray this life miracle,
however humble its form.
The electric clippers will be
singing on my ears their
dry metalic whine of victory
if so, this thing called Life
will be shown to be sprinkled elsewhere other yonder

single planet earth.
Existence will mean

to everybody
and our struggle
to keep it together
on our end will not be
in vain

if life is shown to replicate
and endure via the same mechanism
as it does on earth,
that being the intimate union

then maybe that
simple dependable formula
is how the entire Universe
becomes filled with life...
how will we explain that

as the main event out there yonder
