The Peacock

The Peacock is a symbol
of eternal grace-
Not only is it
a handsome creature
on the outside,
but it eats
poisonous plants
and insects-
a metaphor for
confronting evil,
absorbing it and
transforming evil into good:
a metaphysical bravery
that appears foolish
to the casual observer.
The peacock has a
loud and shrill voice.
Crying in the dark
it sounds like tin cans
tumbling downstairs.
It seems stupid
when indeed,
the peacock
is merely unaffected
by events
