Marcel DuChamp
****************

in his defense,it can be said that he did make several real breakthroughs in art.

But he got tired explaining it to idiots and retreated into chess where he said to the effect

" at least the audience is paying attention "

He would read letters from all over the world that arrived at his agent and if he liked the writer, would agree to meet them for coffee at a NY City cafe.
He was very charming and polite, open to new experiences from people of all walks of life. If they were " fun" he would play chess with them in a nearby hotel where he got the room for a big discount provided nobody messed up the beds...

I think Mon DuChamp considered Picasso without his entourage circus or international fame cloud " boring "

something along the line of
" the worlds richest peasant "

Still, his early 20th C painting
" Nude descending a staricase " broke through time & motion barriers in art.
Its still cool 100 years later..and to think there was nobody to bounce off when he painted it, he was truly alone

He actually did get there first & best and didn't mess up the beds
